Office Furniture
The office furniture is perhaps the secret ingredient to any successful office renovation project as it is the cherry on top. There is hardly any point in investing in demolition work, remodeling, and ending up with cheap looking furniture.
That’s why whenever we’re working with a client on their office interior design, one of the things we look into is the type of furniture that completes the design.
Here are the top four factors that bend the rules of ordinary office interior and transforms it into the masterpiece your clients will marvel when they stop by to visit.
1. Bring the Outdoors Inside with the Biophilic Concepts
Feel like you’ve been trapped within the same four walls for the last eight hours? One of the ways to introduce a different ambiance to the office is by bringing the outdoors, indoors!
If you’re going for something more subtle, you could add ground-to-ceiling window panels which let natural light in. For most employees, going to work is often a chore. Yet, you might be surprised at how quickly an office environment grows stagnant without the elusive element of the outdoors.
And if you don’t mind pushing the Biophilic concept a little further, you could add a small aquarium at the front of the office.
Likewise, you could also add small to medium-sized potted plants in staff lounges, meeting rooms or on every employee’s desk. The element of greenery and nature will spark creativity and improve productivity.
2. Modular Office Workstations and Cubicles
For traditional office settings, the standard office cubicle is a must have. It gives each employee their own designated space and storage area.
However, with a recent trend for maximising office workspace, there is now a growing demand for modular office workstations. Not only are these workstations customisable, they’re versatile as well.
You can easily rearrange or relocate them to clear up space. Or instantly create a private meeting room within an open concept environment.
In fact, a large part of our workspace consultation discussion with clients these days involve these modular office components. It always amazes our clients to discover how much savings they get simply by introducing a module into the office.
3. Furnishings for a Client Room
For companies with a larger space, having a client room is a great addition. Not only does it enhance the company image, it helps clients feel relax and ready for a proper discussion. The last thing we ever want is an uptight and fidgety client while our sales team is presenting a solution.
There’s where the proper furnishing is important to present a feeling of calm while they’re waiting. In some situations, we even recommend including the addition of testimonials from satisfied clients plastered on the walls as well as displaying informative pamphlets to prep them up for the meeting. Testimonials heighten your company’s reliability and authority and letting them read these messages while waiting for the meeting is a nice subtle furnishing trick.
For smaller companies, the client waiting room could also double as an employee’s rest room. Adding in comfortable sofas, water dispenser, snacks and perhaps even a fridge are great ways to boost office morale.
The goal is to show both your clients and employees that you have their needs and interests at heart. It’s the first step towards cementing a long lasting bond as work partners.
4. Decrease the noise level, increase the productivity and peace
A 2014 Steelcase study showed that “49% of workers reported not being able to concentrate easily while the average person loses 86 minutes per day due to distractions.” Just like how construction work outside our flats disrupts our sleep, the accumulation of the little noises in the office are equally damaging.
Having the right office flooring is thus a simple yet effective solution. Installing noise friendly flooring such as vinyl flooring is a better option compared to hard flooring surfaces such as natural wood, porcelain and ceramic. After all, vinyl flooring supports noise absorption and looks great for an office.
Similarly, noise can be filtered (to protect the necessary white noise) using cubicle partitions and ceiling tiles. Speakers could be installed in the ceiling which play ambient background noise such as rainfall. The cubicle partitions would block the noise interference between employees, who may all be clacking their keyboards. The ceiling tiles would absorb the noise and the sound of ambiance would be radiated throughout the office.
Working with the Right Office Interior Designers
Having an open office with dribbles of fun and peace will definitely bring about the company’s desired levels of productivity and collaboration. It is vital to remember that while the company is striving to constantly improve their brand image, employees are not machines.
The process of renovating your office can oftentimes be a tiresome, budgeting nightmare. But by working with an office interior design agency who understands your needs and goals, your office can and will be a sight for your clients to behold.
